Using the Messaging System

Contact Management

Adding Contacts

There are two approaches that can be used to request that another user be added to a user's contacts list.

  • When viewing a user's profile page, whether at the site or course context level, if the user is eligible to be added as a contact, a Add to contacts () icon will be available to the right of the Message () link next to the user's name.
  • When viewing a user conversation in the Messaging interface, opening the Conversation actions menu () will offer the option to Add to contacts.

Approving Contact Requests

New contact requests will be noted by a number in a box next to the Contacts () icon in either the Messaging drawer or Messages page. When Contacts is selected, two tabs become available allowing the user to view their Contacts list (opened by default) or view the users who have requested to become contacts for the user. New requests to be added to the user's contacts list will be indicated by the number of new requests displayed in a box next to the Requests tab.

Selecting the Requests tab displays a list of all users who have requested that the user be included in their contacts list. Each will display the user's name followed by "Would like to contact you".

Selecting a user from the Requests list will open a dialog with the options to Accept and add to contact or Decline the contact request.

Removing Contacts

There are two approaches that can be used to remove another user from a user's contacts list.

  • When viewing a contact's profile page, whether at the site or course context level, if the user is currently a contact, a Remove from contacts () icon will be available to the right of the Message () link next to the user's name.
  • When viewing a user conversation in the Messaging interface, opening the Conversation actions menu () will offer the option to Remove from contacts.
