✎ Sending Bulk Messages to a Class

Sandbox Site Task: Send a bulk message to a class


  • Navigate to the desired course on your site.
  • Navigate to the Participants list for the course.
    • A link to Participants can be clicked within the Navigation block, under the current course menu.
    • If the People block is installed you may click the Participants link within it, as well.

  • Check the boxes next to the names of the participants to whom you wish to send a message or click the Select all button at the bottom of the screen to select all of the users displayed.
  • From the With selected users dropdown menu, choose "Send a message."
  • On the following screen, type the message in the Message body box.
  • Remove users from the recipient list by clicking the Remove button to the right of their name at the bottom of the screen.
  • Click the Preview button to preview the message as it will appear to recipients.
    • If corrections are needed, click the Update button.
    • When you are satisfied with your message, click the Send message button.

Was the bulk message sent successfully?


Use the following steps to ensure that the bulk message was sent successfully.

  • Sign into the site as one of the class participants.
  • Confirm that a new message is indicated by the Messaging icon.
  • Navigate to User menu ► Messages
  • Confirm that the first account is listed in the Messages list as a sender of a message to the second test account. Select the first account.
  • Confirm that the message "This is a test message to the class." appears in the message thread.
